Deadpool And Wolverine: Release Date, Trailer, Cast, And Other Things We Know About Deadpool 3
The Merc with a Mouth is back at it again.
The Merc with a Mouth is back in action again – or at least he will be soon.
We last saw the antihero in 2018's Deadpool 2, which featured the stellar talents of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, the wonderful Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable and so many others. So now, fans of the MCU have been wondering exactly when the sequel is going to come out.
Well, our wondering days are over, because Deadpool 3 a.k.a. Deadpool & Wolverine is coming – and boy, is it going to be a doozie. For all of your questions, like when it’s going to come out or who is going to star in it, here is what we know so far about the third Deadpool movie.
What Is The Deadpool & Wolverine Premiere Date?
Originally, Deadpool & Wolverine was set to release in May, according to Deadline. However, it has since been pushed back to July 26, 2024. This is because filming and production was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Thankfully, we can at least add it to our 2024 movie schedule. While it may feel like it’s far away, I have a feeling that these next few months are going to just fly by.
Does Deadpool & Wolverine Have A Trailer?
The official Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has arrived! In April 2024, it finally dropped, and now we have our first real look at what the story is going to be about -- as well as Hugh Jackman's Wolverine!
In all its R-Rated goodness, we see Deadpool and Wolverine team up in order to save Wade Wilson's universe from falling apart. There's flashes of the TVA, all of Wade's friends, plenty of action scenes, and of course, that Wolverine costume we have been waiting for. I am so excited for this film.

The Deadpool & Wolverine Cast
With a big MCU movie like Deadpool & Wolverine, there’s a large ensemble cast that you can expect to see. Here is who will be making up the Deadpool & Wolverine cast:
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool And Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
While it’s not that surprising that Ryan Reynolds is returning to be Deadpool in the third film, a bigger piece of news came out – Hugh Jackman, a man of many talents, is going to be returning to one of his most famous roles ever in Deadpool & Wolverine, and that's Wolverine.
That’s right, according to the official Twitter post that Reynolds put up announcing the film in September 2022, Hugh Jackman will come back as the famous mutant that has long since been one of the staples of the X-Men films. While it seemed that Jackman was officially saying goodbye to the role of Wolverine with the 2017 release Logan, evidently he decided to come back for the latest Deadpool film with his buddy Ryan Reynolds. Jackman even talked about his reasoning as to why he returned to the role in an interview with Fandango on YouTube in May 2024, specifically because he wanted to make the film with Reynolds:
Leslie Uggams as Blind Al
Confirmed by Deadline in March 2023, Leslie Uggams is set to come back and reprise her role as Blind Al. Uggams has appeared in other films like Roots, American Fiction, and more, and was a part of the TV series, Empire.
Karan Soni as Dopinder
Also confirmed in that March 2023 Deadline article was Karan Soni, who will reprise his original role as Dopinder, the taxi driver for Deadpool that we’ve seen in the last two films. He’s appeared in films like Office Christmas Party, Betas and more, and held a voice role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova
Also tapped for the film is Emma Corrin, and they will be playing the main antagonist, according to a February 2023 Deadline article. Corrin gained a lot of fame for their portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown. The Deadpool 3 character is named Cassandra Nova, according to the U.S. Copyright Office (via NME).
Corrin even spoke about their character to Empire in February 2023, saying they had to be “briefed in” to how the MCU worked because it’s so intricate, but still called it “amazing:”
Matthew Macfayden as Paradox
Another cast member that has joined on for Deadpool & Wolverine is Matthew Macfayden, as confirmed in March 2023 by Deadline. The actor has reached a lot more success with his role in Succession, but will now be heading over to the MCU. The actor will be playing a TVA agent that works with Wade, as seen in the trailer.
Morena Baccarin as Vanessa
Deadline confirmed in April 2023 that Morena Baccarin would be back as Vanessa in the third movie. The actress has appeared in shows like Firefly, Serenity, Homeland, The Endgame and Gotham, among others.
Stefan Kapicic as Colossus
The April 2023 Deadline article also confirmed that Stefan Kapicic would return as Colossus in Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor has also appeared in Better Call Saul, Counterpart, and the film, The Last Voyage of the Demeter.
Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead
Deadline confirmed in May 2023 that Brianna Hildebrand would be back as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. She’s also appeared in Lucifer and Trinkets.
Shioli Kutsana as Yukio
The May 2023 Deadline article also announced that Shioli Katsuna would be back as Yukio for Deadpool & Wolverine. The actress had a big role in Invasion, and appeared in several films such as 125 Years Memory and Murder Mystery.
Jennifer Garner as Elektra (Reportedly)
Another piece of news that was reported not that long after filming started is that Jennifer Garner is reported to be playing Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine, according to The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. She’s appeared in plenty of films like 13 Going On 30, Family Switch, Catch Me If You Can and more.
This is major news, as the actress has not played the role in almost two decades. The first time Garner appeared as Elektra, it was in the 2003 adaptation of Daredevil, and then she had her own film called Elektra, which released in 2005. Both films weren’t super big successes at the box office, but Garner was one of the first women to lead a superhero film during that time period of the early 2000s– and it’s crazy to see that she’s going to be in this new film.
It also really further suggests that Deadpool & Wolverine is going to have some major multiverse aspect, as the case has been with many MCU projects as of late. It’s funny because Jennifer Garner is playing along the lines of “not knowing” what is going on despite the news being confirmed. In an interview with Collider in November 2023, Garner coyly responded, “I don't know what you're talking about. What could you mean?” But then in February 2024, the US Copyright Office (via ScreenRant) reportedly confirmed that Garner would have a much bigger role than we originally thought – so who knows how much of her we are going to see.
Either way, it’s still exciting to see this happening after so long.
Taylor Swift, Daniel Radcliffe, And More Are Rumored For Roles In Deadpool 3
If you’ve been on the internet throughout the promotion of this film, there have been rumors galore that there are going to be several cameos and/or stars that are going to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine. One of the biggest rumors thus far is that Taylor Swift would appear as Dazzler. Reynolds even spoke about the rumor in an interview with The Vancouver Sun in November 2023, saying that all “will be revealed on July 26” without confirming anything:
However, it was reported that Swift wouldn’t appear in the film - but nothing has been officially confirmed, so everything is still up in the air on that one.
Another rumor that’s been surfacing is that Daniel Radcliffe, known for his starring role in the Harry Potter films, would have a “secret role” in the third movie, according to NME.
Heck, Forbes even compiled a list in August 2023 of the different rumors that have been spreading around, from a rumored variant of Loki appearing in the film to Halle Berry coming back as Storm.
Something else that has been going around is that Patrick Stewart could return as Professor X in Deadpool. The actor said on the HappySadConfused Podcast in January 2024 that he believes the character is still in the MCU and that Deadpool & Wolverine has come up.
It also doesn’t help that the director of the film, Shawn Levy, hasn’t completely debunked rumors at all. In an interview with SiriusXM in October 2023, Levy said that while many of the rumors are false, some are true:
Deadpool & Wolverine Will Follow The Titular Characters As They Take On A “Common Enemy”
Okay, so plot details for Deadpool & Wolverine are still pretty limited, but Disney did give us a few crumbs of what we can expect in a safe synopsis and one that pretty much sounds like it was written by Deadpool himself. The safe one simply says that both Deadpool and Wolverine meet and team up to fight a “common enemy.”
The Rated R version of it, though, says that Marvel Studios is presenting their most “significant mistake” yet with this film, and that Wade is “toiling” away as a civilian when an enemy threatens his home, so he has to “reluctantly” team up with an also “reluctant” Wolverine – followed by Deadpool saying how stupid synopsis’ are.
Yup. That’s my favorite superhero right there.
As you can see, the plot is still pretty hidden, but thankfully we know that this movie is going to be more of a partnership film rather than a movie solely focused around Deadpool – at least according to an interview that Shawn Levy did with ScreenRant at CinemaCon in April 2024:
This just makes me more excited for the film.
Deadpool 3 Will Be The MCU’s First Rated R Film
If you were concerned about the fact that Deadpool & Wolverine is now going to be in Disney’s hands, there is no need to worry. The 2024 CinemaCon footage from Deadpool & Wolverine outright confirmed it, where the film “ripped off the R-Rated Disney band-aid” instantly with a whole lot of typical Deadpool cursing. I think we have nothing to worry about here.
Shawn Levy (the director of the upcoming film) previously confirmed that the movie is going to be just as bloody as you would expect. In an interview with the director at Collider in 2022, Levy confirmed that the movie is “very much” a Deadpool movie.
Ryan Reynolds even talked about how happy he was that Disney was “taking a chance” with giving the film an R-Rating in an interview with Variety in May 2024, saying he was “surprised” at first:
Shawn Levy Directed Deadpool & Wolverine
I mean, is anyone surprised by this? Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds go together like butter and popcorn. Deadline reported in March 2022 that Shawn Levy would direct the third installment in the Deadpool series. This isn’t the first time that Levy and Reynolds have worked together in recent years. In 2021, they teamed up for Free Guy, and in 2022, they came out with the hit Netflix film The Adam Project.
I can only imagine what fresh hell these two are going to bring to Deadpool & Wolverine with the films they’ve already produced and released. And I mean that in the best way, because I truly have not laughed harder than watching those movies the last couple of years. Levy and Reynolds are the perfect combination.
Hugh Jackman Will Be Donning The Original Wolverine Suit
Something that was confirmed not that long after filming began was that Hugh Jackman, who is playing Wolverine, is actually going to be wearing the OG Wolverine suit from the comics, according to Variety. It’s his classic black and yellow suit that most fans usually relate the character to.
We have never seen a Wolverine with a real comic-accurate suit on film before. While Jackman is iconic as the character in many ways, there’s no denying that he never really had the classic superhero suit that we always wanted to see. But now, we’re finally going to be getting to see him fight in action.
There’s so much to look forward to with this film, and I for one can’t wait to see what happens when it finally comes out. Is Wade Wilson finally going to meet with all our heroes and make fun of them just like I’ve always dreamed he would? We'll find out when Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in July.
